 THE CHALLENGES

Question1:

What is the main 3 challenges that Energy Pro will face in the next 5 years.  Motivate your answers.

Formulate measurable business end results for the areas: People and leadership development,Customer care and Finances and Technology.

1. Financial: Energy Pro wants to build new power stations that will be able to back - up the power station that they already have, like any company they have a 5 year plan and an estimation of the budget is done, with the new plan of building new power stations it will led them to financial debt as they will exceed their 5 year financial plan.

2. Restructuring programme and expansion: Like all companies at the beginning of every year each company reviews their vision and mission as a company and decide on ways to achieving them, so Energy Pro might have not started earlier with their restructuring programme and their expansion, so with the problem of inflation rate this has delayed their timing of restructuring and expansion and its implementation of their plan, so as they are looking at building other power stations this has led to them not looking at the restructuring programme and expansion plan implementation as a way of seeing what else needs to be done.

3.Scarce skills: As a result of the power failure it shows that there is a shortage in the engineering and technical skills which Energy Pro has to find a way of developing the skills that they have and training interns as a way of enhancing and increasing the skills that they need.To train people requires a lot of time which is something that Energy Pro does not have at the moment, it needs skilled labour and it need it now. To build more power station and to train skilled people needs a lot of money.

People and leadership development

Every person has the potential to impact the organisation, be it for better or for worse, and when the results have been measured and identified the management and other employees will see that their personal investment in leadership development is worth the effort.  When measuring the employee satisfaction of various departments.  Energy Pro will also be able to measure the effectiveness of the leadership team and identify specific areas of need, which will demonstrate that the focus on leadership on the strategic development priorities the impact on the business results.  As the Energy Pro management starts observing its positive financial benefits, it will have a higher priority if creating leaders throughout the organization.  Energy Pro should require a business case for the development of the current and future leadership of their company.

Customer care

Energy Pro must put their customers at the center of how they organize their business process and conducts its company functions.  Energy Pro is to achieve a longer - term customer loyalty rather than only short - term operational efficiencies.  Energy Pro as a company are to give customers what they deserve, when and how they want it.All their effort should ensure that sustainable development, is  taken into account with regards to the environmental concerns and that the role of the company in general, and Energy Pro in particular, is contributing towards the economic growth in South Africa.

Finances and Technology

As much as building more power stations is a challenge on its own, it builds up many other challenges for eskom. To build the power station Energy Pro has to hire more skilled people so that they can finish faster. Employees with good skills will also ensure that the expansion program becomes successful. The  research and development programme that Energy Pro is to develop must be  strongly driven by the operational needs of the business. A "technology roadmap" must be designed, with regards to  the long-term strategic and environmental drivers of the southern and South African power sector. This must be aligned with Energy Pro’s strategic intent to leverage technology and apply it competitively.

In this regard, considerable progress has be made in undertaking a portfolio of research activities aimed at improving technical performance, managing environmental impacts, adding value for customers and developing new business opportunities.
